Welcome

Hi, I’m Anthony Ferreira, a Catholic with a deep love for cinema and an even deeper love for the faith. Welcome to Faith in Films by Ferreira, a place where I share short reflections on the films I watch, exploring them through the lens of the Catholic tradition.

I believe that great film and great theology share a common heart. Both seek to illuminate the beauty of a world that God created and loves eternally. Sacred storytelling has always been with us, and cinema, perhaps more than we realise, has the remarkable gift of drawing out the deepest questions of what it means to be human, to suffer, to hope, and to be loved.

In each reflection, I draw on the riches of the Catholic faith – the Bible, the Catechism, the Saints, the Doctors of the Church, and the broader tradition of Catholic thought. Each reflection opens with a Six-Sentence Synopsis of the film, giving you just enough information to set the scene. Then it moves into a Doctrinal Dissection – an exploration of an overarching theological theme that runs through the film, surfacing in its characters, its story, and its silences.

Thank you so much for spending time here – it truly means the world. I hope these little reflections bring you some joy, deepen your faith in some small way, and perhaps help you see, as I try to, the goodness that God has woven into everything around us.
